Prompt
• deconstruct | ˌdēkənˈstrəkt | verb [with obj.] | reduce (something) to its constituent parts in order to reinterpret it
- Select something.
- Deconstruct it.
- Make a work in response to the process or result of the deconstruction.
- Create a title for the work.
For this piece, I deconstructed a balance used to mass objects in a lab. I originally wanted to create a sculpture with the parts of the balance, but upon deconstruction, I became fascinated by the motherboard inherent inside. The designs of the motherboard, although not necessarily done originally for aesthetic purposes (as consumers rarely if ever see the motherboard that operates a device), I found it appealing and decided to depict that nature. The bright green, its many pathways, the details, the shapes the paths formed, they all appealed to me.
In this piece, I have two levels. The bottom level is the main motherboard in the device, replicated almost exactly as I found it. The top level is a distorted version of another motherboard, characterized by its repetition of similar paths and pentagonal shapes at the ends of each path.
